Expedition attendees

During our last expedition we got excited about Albania and since we covered just the northern part last year, we decided to visit the southern part this time. The expedition began on Albanian side of the Lake Ohrid (300m deep). We also went to the Lake Prespa located on the border with Greece. A wall of the Gramoz mountains stretches along this border and separates the two countries. Then we wanted to overcome the inland ridges, but we have failed for the paths were torn down by avalanches. Some paths has been torn down for several years. Since the ridges are very steep, there aren't any other paths to take. After long twists and turns we got to the Sarandë area, where are the coasts of the Ionian Sea still unpoiled. It was nice in here, because we arrived late at night. But the next day we fled into the mountains to avoid a hellish heat by the sea. We continued to Vlorë through the coastal mountains from where one can get a monumental view of the sea and the island of Corfu from a height of 1500 meters. Vlorë shocked us by its construction and infrastructure. If we weren't in Albania, we'd think that we were at the French Riviera. Our next journey led through the oil fields in Berat and over the mountains to Gramsh. This interior part of Albanian is very sparsely populated and many villages are deserted. In general, the southern Albania has a bit different countryside and people's approach. We ended the expedition again at the Lake Ohrid, where we rested before a long way home. Our cars did not disappoint us again and had been working without a single glitch, which is almost a miracle onto the devastated stony roads of Albania.

Special thanks

Special thanks goes to Radek Polák for the unavalible and exceptionaly detailed map he gave us. Although it wasn't completly acurate, it helped us a lot. Without it, we'd be f*cked.
