Expedition attendees

Ukraine was another country that attracted us. We set out in more cars, which probably is not always the best solution. After initial problems at the border in Ubla, we have continued beneath the Runa pasture. Two cars which had a one-day advantage went up to the pasture. From there we went to Volovec and to the pasture Boržava, beautiful views there. Our next goal was Koločava, the Siňevir lake and the Krásná pasture. After this pasture we reached the Usť-Čorna, where we stuffed ourselves a bit with a fresh bread and a police patrol stopped us. Thanks to our knowledge of Sojma Michail everything went smoothly. After the Svidovec pasture we got to Jasiňa and thence to the Pietros and Hoverla area. That was our easternmost goal, from which we reversed course and went to our friends over Rachov to Něresnica. Here we were very warmly wellcomed and the next day just two of us headed home.

Carpathian Ruthenia is certainly very interesting and worth a visit. Unfortunately, not all members of the expedition contributed to the good mood and well-being. In the beginning of the expedition some participants thought that it was not enough off-road. Oddly enough the same participants was scared shitless on slippery narrow roads under the Hoverla. The ultimate dishonor was made by crew of a certain car, who secretly spilled out the vodka which was given to them by our Ukrainian friends during the feast. Our Ukrainian friends naturally got really pissed, and frankly we did also. The last straw was the crews early departure without a word of apology. It has to be said that the Ukrainian party was really great and all dishes such as „galubci“ were really excellent. We'd like to see the Carpathian Ruthenia again, but certainly with somebody else.

Sometimes less is better than more.

Special thanks

Special thanks goes to Sojma Michail and Roman Celyč.
